North America Launch2018 Review

User Group Meeting Recap

That’s a wrap on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Launch2018 User Group Meeting! Held in November in Boston, customers of Thermo Fisher™ Platform for Science™ and Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager LIMS™, Watson LIMS™, and Nautilus LIMS™ software joined at the annual meeting. Our customers took the stage to highlight how our informatics solutions are enabling their organizations to be successful. Among the customers who shared their stories were: ExxonMobil, Epic Sciences, Regeneron, Conagra Brands, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Cell Signaling Technologies, Pfizer, LyondellBassel, Neurocrine, The Jackson Laboratory, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, MTF Biologics, and FORMA Therapeutics.  Along with the powerful narratives of our customers, attendees learned about recent product innovations, future development plans, and how other leading companies are using our products to accelerate their scientific discoveries and drive laboratory productivity.

This year’s User Group Meeting put a major emphasis on the digital transformation of the lab. As our world constantly evolves and becomes more digital, it is important to discuss how our labs are working to incorporate digitalization into their day-to-day processes and their long-term visions.

Chris Henry, Director of Platform Technology at Epic Sciences, discussed this very point in his General Session presentation “Enabling Precision Oncology with Connected Platforms.” Epic Sciences has successfully integrated Platform for Science software with other commercial platforms to create an interconnected ecosystem that enables their successes. Howard Maxwell, Computer Systems Analyst and LIMS Admin at ExxonMobil, provided insight into how SampleManager LIMS software is a driving force in the digitalization of ExxonMobil’s processes, and how LIMS is providing the organization with a strategic approach around supporting their customers and lab operations.

Astrix Technology Group, one of Thermo Fisher’s informatics partners, took to the stage to provide a different perspective on the digital transformation the scientific community is experiencing.  Through his General Session presentation, “The Digital Transformation of Quality Operations”, Randy Hice of Astrix provided insight into how Quality Operations are ultimately influenced by the digital evolution.  Rounding out our General Session was Anthony Uzzo, Vice President of Research & Development for Thermo Fisher’s Digital Science Business Unit.  Along with a high-level roadmap of current and future application enhancements, Anthony focused on delivering a unified message to our audience around how the products will continue to accelerate innovation and champion productivity in the labs of our customers.

Our Digital Evolution of the Lab Panel Discussion, hosted by GenomeWeb and sponsored by Astrix Technology Group, brought our audience back together to discuss a variety of questions around the hot topic of digitalization in the scientific industry.  Bringing six industry leaders from various professional backgrounds together, the panel discussion provided different perspectives into how organizations define digitalization in laboratories and what they are doing to stay current with industry trends. Moderated by Julie Karow, Managing Editor of GenomeWeb, questions around the digital evolution were pondered and discussed with each of the panelists: Chris Henry of Epic Sciences, David Sexton of Biogen, Eric Banks of Broad Institute, Dana Seehale of Cell Signaling Technologies, Patrick Pijanowski of Accenture, and Anthony Uzzo of Thermo Fisher Scientific.  To watch the panel discussion, click here.

As we conclude the 2018 events with our Launch2018 User Group Meeting, we would like to extend a special thank you to all the customers and partners who attended the meeting and those who participated by providing valuable presentations and workshops.  We have started to plan the 2019 User Group Meeting and we look forward to seeing each of our customers next year and to learning how they are using Thermo Fisher Scientific’s products to make the world a healthier, cleaner and safer place.
