New Bioprocess Applications

A new set of bioprocess applications available in the Platform for Science Marketplace will help scientists to increase workflow awareness, through visibility (at any point in time) into their bioprocess streams. The applications are designed to manage, track, and optimize upstream and downstream bioprocess workflows. Whether you are defining variables, executing your processes, or organizing and reporting on conditions within your culture, these apps will help you pinpoint what is happening in your experiments, so you can plan your work accordingly.

Use the Bioreactor Optimization app to test an unlimited number of bioreactor conditions and track cell growth throughout the process. Standardize protocols and track CO2, pH, DO, cell count, viability, and more. Users can quickly access ongoing experiments and plan work via dashboards.
The Large Scale Biologics Purification app tracks data and processes from protein purification and filtration. Standardize protocols and track conditions and results from an unlimited number of harvesting and purification steps. Register new intermediate and purified proteins, and record information regarding protein quantity and purity along each step in the process. Have quick access into current experiments via dashboards.
The Media Optimization app tracks an unlimited number of media recipes, bioreactor conditions, and cell lines. Use it to create standardized procedures and track information for CO2, pH, DO, cell count and viability, and more. Users determine times and days for media changes, passages, and sensor tracking with the app’s time course abilities.
Use the Plant Design and Production Run app in downstream bioprocessing to track bioreactor conditions and growth characteristics for an unlimited number of experiments. Users can set protocols and track all relevant data for large scale production, including creating an unlimited number of bioreactor types and conditions, media recipes, plant designs, and time points for data capture. Users can track information during process runs, such as CO2, pH, DO, cell count, viability, and more, as well as define times and days for media changes, passages, and sensor tracking over time.

An Informatics Platform for Work Across Your Organization

Informatics solutions can be created for the earliest stages of research by using the applications from Core’s Biologics Solution. Core’s high throughput molecular biology applications can be used for a molecular cloning workflow and the end-to-end data management needed, including registration and inventory of materials, and process execution and data collection. The data collected in these experiments can easily work with Core’s bioprocess applications to inform the early stages of upstream bioprocess workflows.

Molecular Cloning Workflow in Action

To begin the workflow, a researcher can use the Molecular Biology and Expression System Registration apps to register the sequence, cloning vector and bacterial cells. Next, they will use the Polymerase Chain Reaction app to capture the original material and the PCR product created, as well as the thermocycler conditions and primers. If the material is to be purified, the researcher can track this process through the Nucleic Acid Purification app. Researchers can also choose to run a gel for quick QC or pre-purification step. Run conditions and results are recorded using the Gel Electrophoresis app. In parallel, linearization of vector backbones can be tracked using the Restriction Digest application. The researcher is now ready to start the cloning process by ligating their linear backbone with their PCR product or insert sequence through the Molecular Cloning application. Ligation products are then tracked through transformation, clone selection, and bacterial culture expansion.

Samples and materials are tracked in the system throughout the cloning workflow, so that location and lineage are readily available at any time. The apps automatically register new PCR products, constructs, ligation products, and bacterial clones, as well as annotate purified and linear samples and maintain relationships between samples for full traceability within the system. The apps also manage reagents and instruments, through easy to navigate dashboards providing a single source of information for samples, reagents, instrument usage, and more. This single source of information can then be used across the development process. Information in these applications ties together naturally with Core’s new bioprocess apps and others, allowing for visibility across the organization into all relevant data surrounding samples and workflows.
